Jokkmokk Part Fyra (4)

Saturday 1/31/15

Saturday was a much needed rest day. Many of us slept in and later we went out for dinner at a chinese restaurant. Something funny here is that asian cuisine and pizza are always combined. Here is a picture of my menu: pizza on the left, chinese on the right.

Sunday 2/1/15

One of the best days so far! They just keep getting better. In the morning I and three other students rented cross country skis from a nearby hotel. There are miles and miles of groomed trails around the village and in the woods. It took us a bit but we soon got the hang of the skis and the rhythm. It was such a work out! We found some hills and went a little downhill skiing. Paget almost ran over a man's dog! As I write this on Monday I am definitely sore. Afterwards we relaxed in a Swedish sauna.

Sunday evening was the official opening of the winter market. We attend a service at the Gamla Kyrka, which is this really old, cute, little church. The service was in Swedish but the music was beuatufil. There was a mandola and nychelharpa. Afterwards there was a candle light procession to a concert.

Also we met two women from England who live in the Stone Age. For example they make all their clothes from animal skin. They spent one night at our hostel but didn't have anywhere else to stay so they said they were going to build an igloo! How cool.

  1. I'm getting schooled! Ahhh, a cross-country workout followed by a sauna. Keep all the wonderful pictures and commentary coming!
